RECENT EVENT DIARY
Saturday 30th September 2006
Our most recent gig featured a pure reggae nite with David Buckley of the Baggariddim Sound. Born in 1970 a native of Limerick Bucky is a big reggae fan for nigh on 20+years, looking to spread the message of Jah Music, which has been promoted to great applomb by the recent Cheebah nights. Looking to build on that now and develop his own sound system if the pockets are deep enough! Love of reggae music origiantes to great degree to the underlying message of social justice that reggae music contains in all it's forms. Conscious music JAH!Saturday 16th September 2006
We tried something different in September @ HusH - a mixture of DVD and DJs featuring Devo, The Clash, The Pistols, The Stranglers, The Ramones, The Residents and a unique Punk selection on DVD and live DJs DJ Ajax and Grinner spinning the best in Punk and electronica like Kraftwerk, OMD, Bill Nelson, Suicide, Gary Numan, Human League, Throbbing Gristle, BEF, Joy Division. The dvd selection features URGH! A Music War with The Police, Toyah Wilcox, The Dead Kennedys, The Cramps, XTC, Echo & the Bunnymen, Steel Pulse, The Go-Gos, Klaus Nomi, Surf Punks, Joan Jett, Oingo Boingo, X, Skafish & many others. It went down well especially with the ageing punks! HusH - always different!
Saturday 26th August 2006
The big news this month was our WORLD music special. Resident DJ Grinner played music from accross the globe to reflect the cultural mix which gives Daffys its name as an international bar. Also the tribute to 60s French pop from DJ AJAX former manager of The Hitchers, entertainment writer for the Limerick leader and well known DJ was no doubt the highlight of the night. And long time friend to HusH Tim O'Connor surprised us all with an unusual set. We would like to thank all those who brought CDs of music from abroad it added an extra flavour to the night!Saturday 12th August 2006
A welcome return to Peter Curtin this month. Peter has a show on Power Fm Dublin now spinning many afrobeat, funk n soul classics. He has a wicked collection of original vinyl which he shared with us on the night - brillo! In the middle of Peters set we tried a new concept for HusH - an acoustic guitar session from Dermot Carroll. Dermot started playing and songwriting in california 5 years ago. He has recently returned to Ireland and is currently recording his debut album. His songwriting is influenced by everthing from early american folk to late nights out drinking. He got a great reception on the night - so much so that we will have him back again soon. Fair man Dermot. HusH - simply magic!
Saturday 13th May 2006
The club night HusH returned this Saturday with a newcomer to the venue. DJ Hazo has been dj’in and makin music with a hip hop bent for over 15 years. He records under both the illdependents and Hazo monikers. The first Illdependents 12" was released in April 1998 on Ultimate Dilemma. It charted on many UK club charts and received praise from publications like DJ, Hip Hop Connection, The Event Guide, Mixmag, and Melody Maker. The Illdependents second 12” was released in 1999 to similar acclaim, and featured “innacitytears” a track which became the soundtrack to TG4’s ‘Rianta’ music programme as well as featuring in the Soundtrack to the Stacy Peralta directed “Riding Giants”, the critically acclaimed surfing documentary. Illdependents music was memorably featured in RTE's documentary about the World Poker championships. He has also released a 12” single with Captain Moonlight “trippin thru me dreams” on All City Records. Further releases are in the can.
DJ Hazo has played at most venues up and down the country, as well as in the UK and New York. What we got on the night was a wide range of music, all going in the one direction! HusH at Daffys - top dog when it comes to talent and variety!
Saturday 19th November 2005
A newcomer to HusH -NERO has a background in the Dublin/Galway music biz stretching back 20 years which has involved in the main, studio production, artist management and collecting hundreds of eclectic records by the likes of Throbbing Gristle, John Prine, The Cure, Toasted Heretic, Paddy Keenan, Cane141, The Little Fish, and MC Krisma. NERO was brilliant on the night. The journey went from the spoken word of Samuel Beckett sandwiching Captain Beefheart and Smiley Culture with Dan Sullivan's Shamrock Ceili Band! The rule for HusH this time around was – there was no rule!Saturday 3rd September 2005
B+ made a welcome return to HusH with his mate Eric Coleman as part of a European tour to promote their new DVD being signed to Ninja Tune. The lads did their ting with style and finesse featuring beats n rhymes galore rooted out from record bins in LA and accross the world. It was a real treat for the HusH fans that made it down. A big thanks and nuff respeck to all!Saturday 16th July 2005
The most recent event at HusH was when Phil Wade & Peter Curtin played a selection of funk, reggae and hiphop on Saturday 16th. It was a quiet nite around Limerick that nite but the HusH crew lapped it up and Phil remarked what a nice crowd ye were! But then it was his first nite to experience the HusH vibe - simply lovely!Birthday 3! Saturday 28th May 2005
The club nite HusH cellebrated its 3rd birthday party at Daffys by bringing together the original line up for the first HusH back in '03. DJs on the night were Code (Subtle Audio) and John Cowpar (Black Spot) playing downtempo electronica and Grinner spun a few tunes to get that party atmosphere going! The venue was packed so thanks for all who came down and a big hi! to all the newcomers to HusH and this site.Saturday 5th March 2005
World Music Nite! The night featured Tim O Connor and Grinner from Limerick spinning a very varied selection of music from around the world accompanied by BB Memga from the Congo keeping in time with drumming on his Ivory Coast Drums. Twas COOL!Saturday 29th January 2005
We plan to liven up your winter in Limerick this month with a January style boogie session. Peter curtin will be playing Afrobeat and Funk n Soul. Billy Barham makes his debut at HusH with a selection of Hip Hop and Reggae. Its gonna be FUNKY so dont miss it!Saturday 27th November 2004
Another brilliant selection of music from the HusH djs at this event. Code aka Conor O Dwyer an old pal of HusH came up with an unusual selection for this normally pure Drum & Bass man. Code played a mixture of Electro as well as D&B which was well cool. Tom Frawley brought us on a musical mystery tour which had the crowd crying out for more at the end of the night. We record all nights at HusH and this night is getting worn out on my CD player!World Music Nite Saturday 25 September 2004
This turned out to be one of the best nights ever at HusH. The idea was for people from around the world who live in Limerick to bring along CDs from their country and we would play them. We had contributions from France, Russia and Poland. Cannary from the Congo played a mix of traditional and modern music from his country which went down well with the Congoleese cru! Grinner and Tim O Connor also played a selection of music from the four corners of the globe. Great fun for everyone and we WILL be doing this again!REGGAE SUNSPLASH Saturday 10th July 2004
The best selection of Reggae ever played in a club in Limerick without a doubt! Cian Frawley of Jazzmag Entertainment and Tom Frawley made this special Reggae event a night not to be forgotten with some heavy dub and culture rockin basslines. The visuals supplied by Grinner were the perfect compliment to the music. The question being asked all night was 'Whens the next one?' and we will definately be doing this again. The 2nd Birthday - Saturday 29th May 2004
Phew! what a night. The bar sold out of beer at about 2am so you can imagine! The place was packed and nearly everyone got the free CD which went down well. Grinner started off with a hour and a half of 70s funk pop and rock which was unusual for HusH but it was complimented nicely by John Cowpars set which really got the vibe right for all the HusH crew. Unfortunately Rios couldnt make it but it was a great 2nd Birthday - lets hope year 3 will be as much fun!Saturday 1st May 2004
The night featured two Peters and an Evil Grin! Peter Curtain was back again with a set of Funk, Soul, Hip Hop and Reggae that had people asking 'Where does he get that stuff from??' - in short - brilliant! Newcomer Peter Byrne was adventurous in style which went down well and TheEvilGrin finished off with a pure reggae dub session. Great night.Saturday 20th March 2004
Brian Cross (B+) was our special guest on the nite all the way from LA and we had a great crowd down to see him. He played a varied set of Hip Hop and South American music and we had his latest DVD 'Keep in Time' on the big screen. Peter Curtain started off with a set of soul n funk and we were so impressed we decided to have him back for May. Code featured some wicked dubby D&B to complete the beat. Nice one guys!Saturday 21st February 2004
Yuvi Basanth played South African and Dub Reggae. He really got a great atmosphere going and everyone enjoyed his set. Lepton played a live set of his own ambient compositions and people were well impressed at this local producers talent. Last but not least Eoin G featured a Deep House selection that had everyone movin on the dance floor. All in all another great night at HusHSaturday 24th January 2004
The club night HusH has been running in Daffys downstairs bar since May 2002 and it serves as a platform for up and coming Limerick based DJs and producers who play a selection of music not normally heard in Limericks mainstream clubs. If you like dub reggae, nu jazz, funk, world, soul and the mellow side of house, d&b and hip hop then HusH which runs on a Saturday night once a month, is the place for you. The line up for January was:-
John Cowpar - Dub Funk. Rios - Nu Jazz. Eoghan Harris - Fusion of styles
It was a quiet nite to start off with but it eventually got going in the end and the music went down a storm. Thanks to John and Rios for a wonderful selection and especially to Eoghan for supplying the dex and for freaking me out a few times with unexpected delights. Peace! B
Saturday 22nd November 2003 The event ran from 10 till very late and we had a big crowd that came from upstairs for the last few hours. This garunteed a great athmosphere and exposed the DJs and their music to an even bigger audience than usual. The music was brilliant like all HusH events. The DJs were:-
A2DF - HipHop / Funk
Graeme Stackpoole - Jazzy Drum & Bass / Reggae
Eoin G - DeepHouse
